Gelco Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Chimney Repair in Bristol: What to Know First

We repair Gelco chimney products throughout Bristol, CT, and we’ve been doing it long enough to know exactly where they fail and why. Most Gelco chimney repairs in Bristol run between $300 and $1,800 depending on whether we’re repointing mortar, rebuilding a crown, or replacing flashing, and we’ll give you a firm number before any work starts. This page is for Bristol homeowners who own a Gelco chimney system and want straight answers about what’s wrong, what it costs, and whether it even needs fixing yet. Call (860) 743-7743 and you’ll get a live person, not a call center.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Gelco makes solid chimney components, but Bristol winters are hard on them. Here’s what we actually see when we get up on a roof or into a firebox around town.

  • Gelco stainless steel flue liners develop seam separation at the twist-lock joints. Gelco liners use a twist-lock connection system, and after enough freeze-thaw cycles in Bristol, the seams can creep apart just enough to let flue gases slip between the liner and the masonry. You won’t see it from the firebox. Our camera inspection finds it in about ten minutes, and the fix is usually a section replacement or a seam re-seal, not a full liner job.
  • Gelco chimney caps loosen at the mounting legs before the cap itself fails. We find this mostly on homes over near Federal Hill where the wind comes off the hills and works the legs back and forth. The cap looks fine from the ground, but it’s wobbling. Left alone, the wobble cracks the crown underneath. We re-anchor or replace the legs, and if the crown’s already cracked, we repair that too, same trip.
  • Gelco masonry chimney crowns crack at the outside edges first. This is true of most poured crowns, but we see it earlier on Gelco crowns because the drip edge is cut close to the brick. Bristol’s rain-and-freeze pattern gets water under the crown edge, and once it freezes, the edge spalls. The repair is a proper crown rebuild with a real drip edge, not a recoat that hides the problem for a year.
  • Gelco fireplace dampers bind up after years of heat cycling and creosote buildup. The cast-iron frame warps just enough that the plate won’t seat fully, and then you feel a cold draft all winter. Sometimes it’s a cleaning and adjustment. Sometimes the frame needs replacing. We’ll show you close-up camera footage either way, so you can see for yourself before you spend a dime.
  • Gelco chimney flashing fails at the side-step seams before the roof flashing does. The base flashing often outlasts the side flashing on Gelco installations. Water gets in at the step-seam, runs down the chimney chase, and shows up as a ceiling stain two floors below the actual leak. The fix is new step flashing cut and counter-flashed properly, which runs less than most people expect once we expose the actual entry point.

Our Gelco Chimney Repair Process

  1. 1
You call and talk to a person. Wendell or someone from his crew answers. You describe what you’re seeing, and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds urgent or can wait for the next open slot.
  2. 2
We show up and look, not guess. Wendell has spent two decades driving Bristol roads and getting into attics and fireboxes all over town, including plenty of older homes near Lake Compounce where the flues tell their own story. Every diagnostic includes a camera run. You see what he sees.
  3. 3
We give you a firm price before tools come off the truck. No hourly billing games. The number you approve is the number on the invoice. If it’s a simple fix, the price reflects that. If your chimney doesn’t need work yet, we’ll tell you that too, and we’ll tell you why.
  4. 4
Parts decision on a Gelco job. Wherever possible we use Gelco OEM parts to keep everything matching and warranty-safe. When OEM doesn’t make sense, whether it’s lead time or a discontinued part, we use quality aftermarket components from the brands we trust, like DuraFlex or HeatShield, and we’ll tell you which one and why before ordering anything.
  5. 5
The repair itself. Mortar repointing, spalling brick repair, chimney waterproofing, flashing repair, rebuilding, tuckpointing, whatever the camera showed us is what gets fixed. No surprises.
  6. 6
We test and we show you the result. After the repair, we run the camera again and you see the before and after side by side. Then it’s backed by our 90-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, one call brings Wendell back at no additional cost.

What Gelco Chimney Repair Costs in Bristol

Here’s what we typically charge around Bristol for the most common Gelco repairs. These are real ranges, not phone estimates that change when we see the job.

  • Mortar repointing on a Gelco chimney: $400-$900 depending on damage and chimney height.
  • Spalling brick repair: $250-$650 for isolated brick replacement and repointing.
  • Chimney waterproofing: $350-$700 for a full application on a standard Bristol chimney.
  • Flashing repair around a Gelco chimney: $350-$1,000 depending on how much flashing needs cutting and counter-flashing.
  • Chimney rebuilding from the roofline up: $1,800-$4,500 depending on height, access, and brick match.

What moves the price is access, height, and how far the damage has spread before anyone looked. That’s why catching a step-flash leak in year one costs a few hundred dollars, and catching it in year five costs a ceiling repair too. We offer free estimates, and we’ll honor the number we give you. Call (860) 743-7743.

Why Bristol Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for Gelco Work

Most of our Bristol customers have already been through the national chain experience: a stranger at the door, a price that changed mid-job, and a phone number that goes to a call center in another state. We’re the opposite. Top Hat Chimney has been owner-operated by Wendell Pike since 1999. He grew up in San Diego and learned the trade at Southwestern College, but he’s spent the better part of two decades driving Bristol roads, and there’s a good chance you’ll run into him at the hardware store on Saturday. He puts his name on the work because he knows he’s going to see you again around town.

Every Gelco repair is backed by our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. No fine print. If it’s not right, one call brings us back. We answer our phones 24/7 with a live person. And while we’re independent of Gelco, we work with their products every week, alongside the other brands we service like DuraFlex and HeatShield. That cross-brand experience means we’re not guessing when a Gelco liner meets an older masonry chimney and the fit isn’t what the catalog said it would be. We’ve seen it before, and we know how to make it right.

We also keep our standing offers simple: $40 off any repair over $200, a free second opinion on any written estimate from another company, no trip charge inside our service county, and 10% off for seniors and veterans, always.
