HeatShield Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cleaning & Sweep in Bristol: What to Know First

We clean and service HeatShield chimney systems in Bristol as an independent HeatShield service provider, and most residential sweeps run $189 to $289 with the camera inspection included. We’re typically in your flue within a week of your call, faster if the creosote is heavy or you’re smelling smoke inside. If you’re not sure whether the chimney needs sweeping yet, call (860) 743-7743 and describe what you’re seeing - we’ll give you a straight answer on the phone before we even put you on the schedule. Wendell Pike has been looking at chimneys in Bristol since 1999, and he’ll tell you when the job doesn’t need doing.

  • Independent HeatShield service: We install, clean, and repair HeatShield systems. We are not a HeatShield authorized dealer and we don’t pretend to be one.
  • Camera inspection included: You see what we see before you agree to a single dollar of repair.
  • Live people, real answers: Call (860) 743-7743 and a person picks up. Sometimes it’s Wendell himself.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

HeatShield makes a solid product, but every flue system has its weak points. Here’s what we actually find when we get into HeatShield chimneys around Bristol:

  • HeatShield Cerfractory flue sealant on original clay liners: This is the most common HeatShield application we see in older Bristol homes, especially up around Federal Hill and over by Lake Compounce. The failure we find most often isn’t the HeatShield product itself - it’s the original clay tile behind it. Clay liners crack from thermal shock, and moisture gets between the HeatShield coating and the tile. You won’t see it from the firebox. We see it on the camera. The fix is usually a spot repair and reseal, not a full liner replacement, and we’ll show you the footage that proves it.
  • HeatShield joint sealing on flue tile seams: On chimneys where only the joints were sealed rather than the full flue surface, we regularly find separation at the tile joints after a few Connecticut freeze-thaw cycles. Water gets in, freezes, and works the sealant loose. This is a Bristol-specific reality - houses here sit through winters that alternate between hard freezes and thaws all season. We clean the joint carefully, remove the loose material, and reseal with the proper HeatShield formulation.
  • Creosote adhesion on older HeatShield coatings: First-degree creosote brushes off a properly applied HeatShield surface. But on systems that have been in place ten years or more, we sometimes see third-degree creosote that has glazed onto the coating surface where the homeowner burned unseasoned wood. That glaze doesn’t come off with a standard wire brush. We use a gentler approach on HeatShield surfaces than we would on bare clay or stainless - too-aggressive mechanical cleaning can scratch the sealant and shorten its life.
  • HeatShield liner surfaces under smoldering loads: If you burn your wood stove or fireplace low and slow, you’re making more creosote than a hot fire ever would. We see it on HeatShield surfaces all the time - a thick, tarry buildup that you can’t see from the top or the bottom. The real danger is that this hides the condition of the coating underneath. We remove the creosote with methods that don’t damage the HeatShield material, then camera the flue to make sure the coating itself is still sound.
  • HeatShield in chimneys with leaky crowns: The best flue coating in the world can’t save a chimney if water is pouring in from the top. We see this all over Bristol: the crown cracks, water gets behind the HeatShield, and the coating starts to fail from the outside in. When we sweep a HeatShield chimney, we always check the crown and cap as part of the job. Half the “HeatShield failures” we get called to fix are actually chimney top failures that went ignored.

Our HeatShield Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Process

Every job gets the same honest approach. Here’s what happens when you call us about your HeatShield chimney:

  1. 1
The phone call: You talk to a person. We ask what you’re seeing, what you’re burning, and when the chimney was last swept. You get a real price before we come out - no changes at the door.
  2. 2
The arrival: Wendell or one of his background-checked crew shows up in a uniform, with an arrival window we actually honor. If we’re running late, you’ll know before you wonder.
  3. 3
The sweep: We brush the flue with tools appropriate for HeatShield-coated surfaces. No shortcut spinning rods on a vulnerable coating. We cover the firebox, run the HEPA vacuum, and keep the dust in the fireplace where it belongs.
  4. 4
The camera inspection: After the sweep, the camera goes up. You watch the footage with us. If the HeatShield is intact, we tell you it’s intact. If something’s wrong, you’ll see exactly what we’re seeing - no scare tactics, just the plain truth.
  5. 5
Parts and repairs: If the HeatShield needs spot repair, we use HeatShield-compatible materials or recommend an appropriate alternative. We’ll tell you when a repair makes sense and when replacement is the honest answer, and we’ll quote it before any work happens.
  6. 6
The 90-Day Done Right Promise: Every job is backed in writing. If it’s not right, one call brings us back. That’s been the deal since 1999.
